Flow Control Valves

A Flow Control Valve should not be mistaken for pressure controllers or regulators. A flow control valve regulates airflow within the pneumatic system and adjusts the operating speed of the actuator.

A Flow Control Valve regulates air flow in only one direction, which allows free flow in the opposite direction. Selecting the proper inlet and outlet port sizes with the required flow rate for your application is essential in choosing a flow control valve.

Factors to consider when selecting a flow control valve:

  • Flow rate control – what is the minimum and maximum controllable flow rate required for a component or process?
  • Configuration – for a uni-directional valve, is control required on the exhaust or in-flow cycle? Or, is a bi-directional valve required?
  • Connection - is threaded or push-in most suitable? 
  • Control method – is manual adjustment suitable for the application, or is a remote method required?
  • Working environment – do factors such as aggressive environments, or temperature, limit the choice of the material used in the design of the valve?
  • Working pressure – what is the maximum operating pressure of the system or application?
